Trip Lee

William Barefield III, better known as Trip Lee, is an American Christian rapper.

Biography Edit

Born William Barefield III on December 17, 1987, the Dallas native dreamed of being a professional athlete or a famous rapper. Around the age of 12, he began rapping to hone his skills. "I rapped about random hot I was, how many girls I could pull," he saidin an interview. At the age of 14, he accepted Christ and switched his focus from fortune, fame, and girls. He slowly switched completely to Christian rap and became a youth leader at the age of 17.

In 2004, Trip met Lecrae at a concert. After several months of meeting and talking, Lecrae began to pastor him. While still in school, Lee was given the opportunity to pen a few devotionals for the Reach Records website that dealt with theological matters and showcased his spiritual maturity. He preached his first sermon at age 17.

Lee signed to Reach Records and his debut album, If They Only Knew, was released a few days after his high school graduation. His first full-length album introduced 116 fans to his distinct southern sound, unique delivery and gospel-centered lyrics. That same year, he appeared on the classic Lecrae track Jesus Muzik.

In 2008, he released 20/20, which gained a spot on the Billboard 200, reached No.11 on the Billboard Christian chart and No. 4 on the Billboard Gospel chart. In 2010, his third album, Between Two Worlds, a collection of lyrical advice of godly life in an ungodly world, was released. The next year, in late March, he released two singles, "Brag On My Lord," and "King Like Mine."

Trip now resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife. He plans to release his fourth album, The Good Life, in April 2012.
